How2no.com was created on October 29, 1999.

I opened an AOL account (remember AOL?) and was trying to create a user name. Every name I tried had already been taken.

After about 25 minutes of trying and failing to locate an available user name, I started to get frustrated. I also started talking to myself.

• "How can a person find a user name if they're all taken?"
• "How would I know what names to try after the first 15 or so?"
• "How can I just create a user name so I can start using AOL?"

Then I had an epiphany (a Greek word meaning "sudden and striking realization"). I tried "howtoknow". But it was already taken.

Then I had a second epiphany ... "how2no".

I was so excited to discover "how2no" was available that I immediately registered the "how2no.com" domain.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
